A Commencement Notice is a notification to the local authority that a person intends to carry out works or a material change of use to a building which the Building Regulations apply.

In other words, it gives a good idea of the amount of construction activity due to be carried out in a particular area over the next number of months.

Notices for 18 residential units were issued in Clare last month, which is a drop of nearly half on August’s number.

It’s a fall of 40 percent from the same month last year, and nearly 70 percent on 2020’s figure.

All notices issued this month in Clare were for one off builds.

Only eight of the country’s 31 local authorities saw a lower figure than this county in September, including Galway City, where no commencement notices were issued whatsoever.
