Mayor Of Clare To Fight Future RIC Commemoration “Tooth And Nail”

The Mayor of Clare says he will fight any future commemoration of the RIC “tooth and nail”.

The Justice Minister, Charlie Flanagan yesterday announced the event, planned for Dublin Castle later this month was being differed and that any event in the future will be inclusive and respectful of all traditions.

It followed days of controversy, with many people against the event due to the RIC’s links to the ‘Black and Tans’ during the War of Independence.

Meelick Fianna Fáil Councillor Cathal Crowe, who was the first to boycott the event, hopes the deferral will become an outright cancellation.
