Labasheeda Resident Tells Of Kuwait Evacuation Over Al Qaeda Threat

A Labasheeda-based woman says her experience of fleeing from a Middle Eastern country having been told she was in ‘imminent danger’.

Ruth O’Neill and her husband Shane – who both live in the West Clare village – moved to Kuwait in May 2003, where the pair worked at Kuwait International Airport with a commercial company that dealt with the US military.

The US and British invasion of Iraq in March 2003 subsequently destabilised the region, leading to Al Qaeda becoming active in a number of nearby countries, including Kuwait.
