ESB Monitoring Water Levels In Clonlara Amid Threat Of Flooding

The ESB says it’s liaising with the relevant authorities and monitoring water levels in Clonlara, as concern grows about flooding.

The Springfield area of the East Clare village was hit with devastating floods four years ago, which led to people being evacuated from their homes.

Now, it’s understood that sandbags are being provided as a precautionary measure to protect homes, in the event of a fresh flood occurring, due to the level of rainfall expected in the coming days.

In a statement to Clare FM, the ESB says current forecasts suggest that flooding is not expected to occur as a direct result of levels as things stand; however, if there is heavy flow in te downstream tributaries, there may be a threat of floods.

The utility is liaising with authorities and local residents have been alerted to the issue.
