Drink Driving Offences In Clare Increase By Over 60% In Q2

The number of drink-driving offences in Clare increased by 62% in the second quarter of this year compared to the same time last year.

A total of 36 people were found to be driving over the legal limit between April and June.

The latest figures from the Central Statistics Office show a significant rise in the number of offences committed across a spectrum of potential charges from threats of violence to theft and criminal damage.

Between April and June of this year, 36 people were found to be driving a vehicle whilst over the legal alcohol limit.

This compares to the 19 who were caught during the same period last year.

While the numbers drug driving are still low in Clare, there was still a 67% rise in this offence this year – increasing to 6 from 3 last year.

Meanwhile, there was a 117% drop in the numbers caught with drugs for sale or supply in the second quarter – with 6 offenders this year and 23 last year.

Similarly, the number of offenders with drugs for personal use also dropped by 37% from 45 to 31.

The number of attempts or threats to murder, assault or harrass jumped by 35% from 84 offences in 2021 to 120 this year.

There was a 53% increase in burglaries, 37% increase in thefts and the same percentage increase in thefts from shops this year.

However, the number of fraud incidents dropped by almost 70% from 99 in Q2 of 2021 to 48 in the second quarter of this year.
