23% Jump In Complaints From Clare To Ombudsman About Public Bodies

There has been a 23% jump in the number of complaints about public bodies from Clare people in the last year.

The Department of Social Protection, HSE and the Road Safety Authority were the most complained about public bodies in the county in 2022.

The Ombudsman received 85 complaints about public bodies from Clare people in 2022.

 

This represents an increase of 23% from just 69 in 2021.

The majority of complaints were made about the Department of Social Protection, with 11 complaints of this nature received by the Ombudsman.

The HSE and the Road Safety Authority each had seven complaints made about them while the Ombudsman received four complaints a piece about the Department of Agriculture, University Hospital Limerick and the Legal Services Regulatory Authority.

Complaints against Clare County Council are up by 25%, with 25 complaints received in 2022 compared to 20 in 2021.

It has been noted that two of these complaints were made by people outside of the county.

Housing and Planning were the local authority’s most complained about departments with seven complaints registered about each of these.

Other complaints made about the council related to pollution, fines, homeless services and roads.

Overall, the Ombudsman received 4,791 complaints in 2022 which is an increase of almost 20% on 2021.
