Clare Year-On-Year Rent Increases The Second Highest In The Country

Clare’s year-on-year rent increases in the first quarter of 2021 are the second highest in the country.

A new report from the Residential Tenancies Board shows rental prices in this country increased by more than 11 percent in the 12 months up to the end of March.

The RTB’s rent index for the first three months of 2021 states that the average standardised rent in Clare stands at 850 euro – that’s up from 764 euro during the same timeframe last year.

It’s an 11.3 percent rise in 12 months – in percentage terms, only Kilkenny has seen a higher rise in the same period.

It’s a 2.3 percent increase in rental prices when the year began, when they stood at 831 euro.

Rents in each of Clare’s electoral areas all appear to be climbing – standardised prices in East Clare, Shannon and Ennis were all above 900 euro up to the end of March, though no such data was available from the RTB for the North or West of the county.

In a further suggestion that supply is contributing to price rises here, just 1.3 percent of new tenancies in the country in 2021’s first quarter were in Clare.

Despite the increases, 14 counties still have higher rents than Clare – though some of those counties, particularly in Leinster, have seen those come down – a trend that is going the opposite way across the Banner’s rental accommodation stock.
