Clare TD Claims Other Counties Not Pulling Their Weight With Refugee Accommodation

Clare’s Fianna Fáíl TD claims some counties are not taking their fair share of the load in hosting Asylum Seekers.

It comes as the Department of Integration has stated its experiencing a significant shortfall in accommodation, with plans for redeployments of tented setups at sites such as Knockalisheen.

750 Ukrainian refugees will be moving into tents at Electric Picnic tomorrow, as Government has not been able to source housing for them, with 10 thousand Ukrainian refugees arriving here since May 1st.

At the end of June, a total of 4,626 Ukrainian arrivals were residing in Clare, while Monaghan by comparison was hosting just over 600.

Meelick Deputy Cathal Crowe believes issues of capacity can be addressed if other counties step up to the plate.
