Clare’s Green Party Senator is confident the country can weather the cold snap without energy blackouts.

It comes as the Tánaiste has admitted that energy supply will be ‘quite tight’ for the next two weeks, with low tempearatures increasing demand and low winds decreasing supply.

An amber energy alert was close to being issued in recent days, however, contingency plans are in place to cut power to data centres and other large generators in the unlikely event of a level red alert.

Inagh Senator Róisín Garvey is reassuring people in Clare that they need not be fearful of power cuts as temperatures dip below zero.
