Clare’s retained firefighters say any decision to escalate strike action will be made by members on the ground.
It’s just over a week since retained firefighters nationwide resumed industrial action following a rejection of the Labour Court’s recommendation which would have included a 34% in the starting salary of a firefighter.
The SIPTU National Retained Fire Fighter Committee has agreed to undertake a national consultation for the escalation of the retained fire services dispute at all retained fire stations with a meeting of the national committee due to take place next Wednesday.
Killaloe Fire Station Shop Steward Edward Moloney says while the consultation is welcome, the decision to escalate must be made by the workers who are affected.
