The National Parks and Wildlife Service is appealing for information following the illegal killing of hares in North Clare.

Investigations are ongoing following the discovery of deceased hares in the Slievenageeragh area of Liscannor last Wednesday morning on May 8th.

The animals are understood to have suffered severe traumatic injuries which resulted in their deaths.

The incident has been condemned by Minister for Nature, Heritage and Electoral Reform Malcolm Noonan as a “deplorable act of violence”, while NPWS Director General Niall Ó Donnchú has descibed it as a “heinous act”.

Anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the area on the 7th or 8th of May, including suspicious vehicles or groups or individuals with greyhound or lurcher type dogs, is asked to contact the NPWS at 01 539 3201, email [email protected], or contact An Garda Síochána.
