Abbey Street Traders Call For Public Meeting Over “Outrageous Prospect” Of Carpark Redevelopment

A group of Ennis traders are calling for a public meeting to highlight growing concern over the planned redevelopment of the Abbey Street carpark.

The planning application for the redevelopment of the carpark, the first project of the Ennis 2040 DAC programme, is due to be lodged in the middle of this year.

If given the go ahead, it would see the parking lot replaced by a large retail and office development, which is expected to generate over 100 permanent jobs when completed, 200 jobs during construction and footfall of 20,000 into the town centre.

A group of Ennis traders fear it could harm opportunities for businesses in the town, and one of them, Gerry Connellan from Abbey Newsagents says his customers express frustration over a lack of parking in the vicinity “all the time”

You can hear more from the traders on Clare FM’s Morning Focus, this Thursday morning, from 9am.
