Cromwellian Cannonball Discovered In Clare

A Newmarket on Fergus teenager has uncovered a cannonball that dates back to the 1650s.

The cannonball, which was found by chance on land in Ballycar, has been donated to Clare Museum who say it dates back to the time of Oliver Cromwell, and a former castle in the area.

Curator of Clare Museum, John Rattigan says that while cannonballs have been discovered in Clare before now, the location of this find is unusual.
