It’s understood that the man sustained his injuries in an altercation between a number of men in the Estate.

A post mortem examination is being carried out at University Hospital Limerick to formally determine the cause of death.

Three men are now being questioned in connection with the incident.  All are in their 20s, and from the West Clare area.  One was arrested in the Kilkee area shortly after the stabbing occurred, and two more have been detained by Gardaí in West Clare today.

They are being held at Kilrush Garda Station where they are being held under Section 4, Criminal Justice Act 1984.

House-to-house inquiries have been conducted by Gardaí who are maintaining a visible presence in the Marian Estate, and a number of scenes have been sealed off to allow for a technical examination.

A badly damaged car was also taken from the scene earlier, and this is being examined by Gardaí as part of their probe.

Any witnesses to the incident, or anyone with information, is asked to contact Kilrush Garda Station on 065-9080550 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
