President Michael D. Higgins is leading tributes to the late, great sportscaster Jimmy Magee.
The 82 year old passed away overnight after a short illness.
He began his career with RTE in 1956, and became known as the ‘Memory Man’ for his encyclopedic sporting knowledge.
He also commentated at a host of Olympic Games and World Cups.
Jimmy’s RTE Sport colleague Marty Morrissey has recalled him as an unassuming man.
You can listen back to the interview with Marty on Morning Focus in full here.
