A Shannon Councillor says the decision not to grant planning permission for an ALDI store in the town is a huge loss to the area.
Sinn Fein Councillor Mike McKee was speaking as Clare County Council rejected an application for the German Supermarket brand to build an outlet in Shannon.
The supermarket giant had lodged planning permission to build a 1,700 square metre, single storey shop, on the R471 at Tullyvarraga but it was met with two objections, including one submitted on behalf of the Skycourt Shopping Centre.
Aldi can appeal the decision to An Bord Pleanála, and local Sinn Féin Councillor Mike Mckee thinks it would have been best to spread the town’s retail area to a wider area.
