A Clare Fine Gael Councillor claims the government has no choice but to invest in infrastructure here.
Johnny Flynn is responding to calls by the Construction Industry Federation for an increase in investment outside of Dublin, saying regional builders urgently need support.
Clare FM’s Ben Sweeney reports:
The Construction Industry Federation has called for increased investment in infrastructure, saying another “lost decade” is possible as small builders currently cannot deliver on what’s required.
The CIF also says there’s more capacity to expand in the Shannon/Ennis corridor than in other economic corridors in Ireland, but without a move away from from Dublin-centric investment they fear this region will be left behind.
Clare’s transport links will be bolstered next month with the M18 motorway expansion to Tuam due to open, though this news has come on the same week as renewed fears that Irish Rail could cut the Ennis/Athenry rail line.
Clare Fine Gael Councillor Johnny Flynn says keeping – and improving – our existing infrastructure should be a priority.
