Council Says Emergency Service Doesn’t Share Concerns Over Tulla Road Works

Clare County Council is defending active travel works on one of the main arteries into Ennis, saying it’s deliberately designed to protect vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and cyclists.

It follows concerns from some locals that kerbs are too high for vehicles to mount when emergency services need to pass and that driving lanes are too narrow.

The €1.8m Tulla Road project commenced in October and aims to deliver a 2.2 kilometre cycle lane, tightened junctions and widened footpaths, designed in accordance with national guidelines.

Senior Engineer with Clare County Council, Cyril Feeney says the local authority consulted with Clare County Fire And Rescue Service during the design process and it doesn’t share the concerns raised.
