This was the fourth application for planning permission lodged by Supermac’s owner Pat McDonagh for a motorway service station at Kilbreckan, Doora, which is near junction 12 on the M18.

Two previous applications were withdrawn and one was turned down by An Bord Pleanála, after it had gotten the go-ahead from the local authority.

This latest application has again been given the green light by Clare County Council, subject to 25 conditions, details of which will be published later today.

Supermac’s says the 10 million euro development will result in the creation of 110 jobs, as well as further employment during the construction phase.

However, the idea of a motorway service station on the outskirts of the town has been opposed by a number of businesses.

Pat McDonagh has previously told Clare FM that he doesn’t intend to compete with local businesses and that he believes this development will help attract tourists into the county.

The Council’s decision can be appealed to An Bord Pleanála.
