Council Fearing “Huge Reputational Damage” If Climate Targets Aren’t Met

This week’s meeting of Clare’s Physical Development Strategic Policy Committee has heard that the local authority must reduce its carbon emissions by 51% by 2030 along with all other public sector organisations.

It’s been revealed that the Active Ennis Leisure Centre – which is the largest building under council management – uses 1.9 million kilowatt hours of electricity each year.

Senior Executive Engineer with Clare County Council’s Climate Action, Environment and Water Services Department, Conor McDonagh, says the consequences of failing to fulfil its obligations could be severe.
