North Clare may benefit more from the Etape Hiberna Cycle in the coming years but a change of date to hold it during the off peak season has effectively been ruled out.
For each of the last two years, the 80-mile race has been held on a closed-road route throughout the county, bringing thousands of competitors and visitors here.

However tourism opperators in North Clare claim the cycle has had a detrimental effect on their businesses due to the staggered road closures.
Currently it starts and finishes in Ennis and there have been calls for this to be changed and Director of Services at Clare County Council Ger Dollard says it could be a possibilty.
