Two Clare Electoral Areas Have COVID-19 Rates Above National Average

Two of Clare’s five electoral areas now have rates of COVID-19 that are above the national average.

Around 1 in every 85 people living in the Ennis and Ennistymon areas has tested positive for the virus in the past fortnight alone.

Despite a slight reduction in case numbers this week, North Clare still has the highest prevalence of COVID-19 in the county.

The Ennistymon electoral area’s incidence rate is at 1,554.1 per 100,000 people after 255 new cases there in the past 14 days.

Cases in Ennis continue to rise though – 463 new cases were diagnosed in the region in the fortnight up to this past Monday.

It leaves its prevalence of the disease at 1,497.9.

407 people living in the Shannon electoral area have been diagnosed with COVID in the same timeframe, leaving its figure at 1,338.9, just below the national average.

Cases have dropped slightly in the East of the county this week.

Killaloe’s incidence rate of the disease has dropped around 10 percent in the past seven days to 1,148.8 per 100,000 people.

West Clare continues to have the lowest prevalence of COVID-19 in the county.

190 new infections there see its rate at 905 per 100,000 people.
