Ryanair is to issue refunds to secondary school students in East Clare who were unable to fly on a school tour due to the pandemic.

A group of 90 Transition Year students in St Joseph’s Secondary School in Tulla have been out of pocket by a combined 18,000 euro after their flight to Barcelona in April was cancelled when Spain stopped all flights coming in and out of the country.

The Irish Travel Agents Association will today tell the Oireachtas Transport Committee that more than 20 million euro in refunds is still owed by Ryanair to customers across the country for cancelled flights.

That’s despite Ryanair owner Michael O’Leary last week insisting the airline has no backlog in refunds.

Clare’s Fianna Fáil TD Cathal Crowe has spoken with Ryanair CEO Eddie Wilson and says he’s now confident a refund will be issued to the students in Tulla.
