Weekly localised data from the Health Protection Surveillance Centre shows 1,667 new cases of coronavirus were confirmed in Clare between the 5th of January and this past Monday the 18th.

That’s a slight reduction from last week’s figure, but no area of the county has seen a significant reduction in its incidence rate of COVID-19 in the past seven days.

Ennis’ rate per 100,000 people is still over 2,000, meaning more than 1 in 50 people in the region have been diagnosed with the disease in that 14 day period.

North Clare has seen a slight increase in its prevalance of COVID, with 251 cases diagnosed there in the past two weeks, and its rate now standing at 1529.7.

The Killaloe and Shannon regions have seen small reductions in their case numbers, with the prevalance of the disease in both now similar to the national average.

West Clare continues to see its caseload reduce also, and its ratio of 805 cases per 100,000 population in the past fortnight is among the lowest in the province.
