Impact Of COVID-19 On Clare Nursing Homes Revealed

Nearly half of all COVID-19 cases in Clare were linked with nursing homes, it has been confirmed.

A new report on the virus and nursing homes has also revealed that over forty healthcare staff here contracted the coronavirus.

43 healthcare workers in Clare’s Nursing Homes contracted COVID-19.

Of these cases, 36 were diangnosed in April alone.

The report also outlines that at the end of June, 176 of Clare’s cases were associated with nursing home clusters.

That’s equates to just over 47% of all cases confirmed here up until that point.

There is no county-specific figure for the number of COVID-related deaths in nursing home, but 52 people sadly died as a result of the disease in nursing homes in the MidWest.

A number of these were in Clare.

This data comes from the COVID-19 Nursing Homes Expert Panel report, which has made over 80 recommendations on dealing with the virus in such settings.

This includes that all new nursing home residents be tested for the disease before admission.
