130 cases of COVID-19 were diagnosed in Ennis and its surrounding areas between October 13th and October 26th according to localised data from the Health Protection and Surveillance Centre.

While its rate per 100,000 at 420.6 remains one of the highest in the province, it’s a 10% reduction on the rate from this time last week.

78 new cases of the disease were confirmed in the Shannon electoral area in the same timeframe – however, its seen its incidence rate fall by around 40%, to 256.6 – below the national average.

The Kilrush area has seen its own rate of the virus fall dramatically by two thirds inside a fortnight – 57 cases were diagnosed in the last two weeks there, and its rate now stands at 133.4 – less than half of the national average.

Ennistymon and Killaloe are the only two areas to see an incidence rate increase, though these are modest.

Ennistymon has seen its number climb from 188.9 per 100,000 population last week to 213.3 now, after 31 new cases were confirmed in the area.

Killaloe, meanwhile, now stands at 149.2, with 24 new COVID-19 cases diagnosed between the 13th and 26th of October.

Clare’s overall incidence rate has increased, however, to 255 after 20 new cases were confirmed last night, with only ten other counties now having a lower incidence rate.

It will give renewed confidence to local health officials and everyone across the county, with the hope now being that the downward trend will continue into November.
