COVID Case Numbers Fall By 10 Percent In Clare This Week

COVID-19 case numbers have fallen by 10 percent in Clare in the past week.

Shannon now has the highest incidence rate of the virus in this county, though the prevalence of the disease has fallen in all of Clare’s electoral areas again this week.

362 new COVID cases were confirmed in the Shannon electoral area in the two weeks up to this past Monday.

Its incidence rate is at 1,190.9 per 100,000 people which, though falling slowly, is the highest in Clare.

351 people were diagnosed with the disease in Ennis in the same timeframe, leaving its figure just behind at 1,135.6.

Ennistymon is the only other area of the county to have its rate over 1,000 heading into Christmas, with 179 cases there meaning its number is at 1,090.9.

The same number of cases in the Killaloe electoral region see its rate at 890.2 per 100,000 people.

West Clare, as it has for some weeks now, has the lowest rate of the virus in the county this Christmas.

167 people have received a positive diagnosis in the Kilrush electoral area in the past fortnight.
