Cork Gardai Extend Detention Period Of Murder Conspiracy Suspect

A man in his 30s, understood to be a former politician, who is being held by Gardai on suspicion for conspiracy to murder has had his period of detention extended.

The man, who is being held under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act, appeared before a special sitting of Cork District Court this morning under a request by Gardai that they be granted more time to question him.

Officers are investigating an alleged plot to kill a garda, a revenue official and an accountant.

It’s thought a second man who was approached to carry out the assassination attempts told Gardai about the plot.

Officers then set up an undercover operation that led to the man’s arrest.
