Concerns Raised On Testing & Tracing System In Clare

Concerns are being raised in Clare that patients with underlying conditions may be left in limbo due to the current COVID-19 testing and tracing system.

Sinn Fein councillor Donna McGettigan says her husband – who is a termnally-ill cancer patient – was recently deemed a close contact and tested for the virus, but the Shannon representative has expressed frustration that she too was not tested until after her husband was deemed positive.

She too was diagnosed with the virus, but has now recovered.

Cllr McGettigan is now leading calls to ensure home carers are tested at the same time as those they are caring for to ensure they are not left alone while waiting for test results.

She says leaving her husband at home on his own after he had being diagnosed as a positive case was very difficult.
