Concerns over Roche operations branded as speculation

Roche’s operations in Clare have been described as a crucial hub for the pharmaceutical giant and speculation the plant could be shut-down have been branded as groundless.

Over 300 full- and part-time staff are employed at the company’s Clare facility, and it’s understood that a decision on it’s future is to made this week.

A review, prompted by a suspension of clinical trials of a new cholesterol drug which was due to be manufactured here, has led to suggestions that Roche will close either it’s Irish plant or another in Carolina in the US.

While anxiously awaiting news, Clarecastle Councillor Paul Murphy is cautiously optimistic.
