Concern Regarding Delays In New Ennis General Unit

Concern has been expressed about ongoing delays in the opening of the new in-patient unit at Ennis General Hospital, for which the HSE is unable to give a specific date.

Speaking to Clare FM in May, Hospital manager Frank Keane expressed hopes that the facility would be operational by June, but a HSE spokesperson has now refused to outline a specific date.

The Executive says the unit will open ‘shortly, and on a phased basis.’  A spokesperson adds that ‘human resource arrangements are being finalised and officials are awaiting the delivery of the final pieces of necessary equipment.’

It’s understood that issues related to staffing have yet to be ironed out, and that this is a key reason for the delay.
