Concern has been expressed about the future of a well known Clare Building Firm, as work ground to a halt on one of it’s major projects.

Current building projects for Fitzgibbons include an extension corridor at Ennis General Hospital, a new Supervalu Supermarket in Miltown Malbay, a Chapel at the Clare 250 Cancer Centre in Ruan and a Community Service Centre Project in Tralee.

Clare FM understands that workers on that site were sent home yesterday – A Tralee Town Council spokesperson has said they haven’t been told why work on the project stopped, but they expect a statement from Fitzgibbon Builders later today.

The Fitzgibbon family have been involved in delivering major Civil Engineering and Building Projects since 1985, including Schools in Ennis and Barefield, numerous housing estates throughout County Clare and the Mid-West, and the restoration of Ennis Cathedral.

The company has also been a major employer in the County over the years and Mayor of Clare Pat Daly has expressed concern for the well known family business and it’s workforce

No one was available for comment at the headquarters of M Fitzgibbon Builders on the Gort Road in Ennis last evening, but an announcement is expected later today.
