However, provisional data also suggests that there were no deaths from the virus here last week, for the first time this year.

It’s twelve months to the day since the first COVID-19 restrictions were imposed, and life changed for everyone.

At the time, it was known that Clare had registered only a handful of COVID cases, but since then 4,648 people have been diagnosed with the virus.

Today, sadly, it has also been confirmed that the official death toll in this county up until last Friday has increased by ten over a two-week period, and now stands at 108.

In each of those cases, the people concerned died of the virus, or had been diagnosed with it.

The most recent data is provisional, but it does state that there were no COVID deaths in Clare last week – that hadn’t been the case since Christmas, and since then 60 deaths had been recorded here.

Other data released today shows the 49 cases here last week was the lowest since mid-December, and that the number of close contacts reported by those who did test positive fell to under three, an important step in stropping the transmission of the virus.
