Clare Women Earning Almost 20% Less Than Men

Women in Clare earn almost 20% less than their male counterparts.

A new analysis of the most recent Census reveals a discrepancy of over €6,000 between the average annual earnings of men and women in this county.

According to a new Central Statistics Office report based on Census 2022, the average person in Clare earns €40,654 per year.

For men, the average is €43,734 while for women, it is €37,210.

This means that the average annual earnings for women in the county are more than €6,500 or 17.5% lower than they are for men.

Those between the ages of 40 and 49 in Clare are earning more on average than any other age bracket, with the average annual earnings for this group standing at €44,821.

People aged 15 to 24 meanwhile earn the least with €21,197 being the average earnings for this contingent.

The best-paid economic sector in Clare is Information and Communication where the average worker earns €56,145 a year and this is closely followed by Education at €55,371.

This makes Education workers in Clare the third-highest paid in the sector nationwide after Sligo and Galway.
