A Clare TD is calling for greater supports for primary schools to care for students before and after school, rather than implementing changes to school hours.
It comes as The Department of Education is set to launch a review of education hours, with a focus on potential changes to school days for younger pupils.

Chair of the Oireachtas Education Committee, Cathal Crowe, claims following the Finnish structure of streamlining the curriculum, setting less homework and setting more regular breaks is the best way forward.
He says increasing contact hours with teachers would be detrimental to students in the long run.
