The president of the Clare branch of St Vincent de Paul claims Government figures on child poverty mask the reality facing many families in this county.
In its Pre-Budget Submission for 2027, SVP is calling on the Government to prioritise income adequacy, tackle rising child poverty, particularly among one-parent families, make early years education more affordable, and protect households from high housing costs.
While overall poverty rates have shown a slight decline, the charity warns hardship is increasing among vulnerable groups, including lone-parent families, older people living alone, and households where someone has a disability.
Clare SVP President, Gerardine Power says the official figures don’t paint the full picture.
