The Clare branch of the Social Democrats insists the State’s current approach to school transport isn’t working for families in this county.
Minister for Education Norma Foley is expected to bring a review of the school transport scheme to Government which would see the distance threshold reduced, thus making thousands more children eligible.
However, the new approach would also see the price of primary and post-primary tickets rise from €50 to €75 and €75 to €150 respectively.
Following calls from Social Democrats TD Jennifer Whitmore for the system to be overhauled, Ogonnelloe-based Chair of the party’s Clare branch Gary Miley says a new system under the remit of the Department of Transport must be introduced.
