Its widely expected there will be very few changes among those heading up government departments.

Today is the Fianna Fail leader’s last full day as Taoiseach, he swaps roles tomorrow with the Fine Gael leader.

It’s understood Micheál Martin may also be the next Minister of Foreign Affairs, replacing Simon Coveney, who may move to the Enterprise portfolio being vacated by Leo Varadkar.

Ennistymon-based Fine Gael Senator Martin Conway insists the report card of Ministers should be marked favourably during the first half of the Government’s term.

Meanwhile, Clare’s Fianna Fail Senator doesn’t believe one single party will be seen in Government in Ireland again.

It’s a phenomenon that’s spread across politics in Europe, with various opinion polls over the last number of years pointing to no one party gaining an overall majority in the next general election.

Mountshannon-based Fianna Fail Senator Timmy Dooley says Government partnerships will be important in the medium to long term.

The Dáil will begin its special sitting to nominate a new Taoiseach, Tánaiste and Cabinet from 10.30am tomorrow morning.
