Clare’s Green Party Senator fears developing a new University Town on the Clare/Limerick border could be detrimental to surrounding towns and villages.
Róisín Garvey is defending her party leader’s decision to not to progress the second phase of the Northern Distributor Road, pointing to the fact that funding for the project was not included in the National Development Plan – something all coalition parties agreed upon.
However, there’s been suggestions that if the road doesn’t go ahead, it could jeopardise an application for an Economic Strategic Development Zone needed to progress plans for a new town on UL’s North Campus.
But, Inagh Senator Garvey has been telling Clare FM’s Rebecca O’Sullivan that funding the Northern Distributor Road to secure the development of a new town in Clare is not the right move.
