Clare’s Fine Gael Senator is calling for an increase to housing adaptation grants for older people and those with disabilities.
The current grant allows applicants to receive at maximum 95% of the costs of work that is not exceeding €30,000, with the level of funding depending on your household income.
The latest report from the Society of Irish Chartered Surveyors meanwhile shows that the average cost of rebuilding a home has increased by 12% in the last year.
Speaking in the Seanad, Ennistymon Senator Martin Conway says the ‘static’ grants don’t reflect the growing costs of building.
