Clare Sees Marginal Decrease In Roads Funding

Clare has seen a slight reduction in its funding allocation for national, regional and local roads in 2026.

The Department of Transport has announced over €38 million for the maintenance and upgrade of the county’s roads network – including €2.5 million for a section of the N68.

The total amount given to Clare under the announcement is €38.37 million which is down almost 3% on its 2025 allocation.

Of this, €31.79 million is for regional roads while €6.58 million will go towards projects relating to the county’s national roads.

The scheme taking the greatest share of the fund in Clare is the minor pavement works programme on the N68 from Drumeen East to Darragh, for which €2.5 million has been set aside.

Also benefitting from minor works funding are Blake’s Corner on the N67 and N85, and Glen South to Monreel South on the N85, with each seeing an allocation of €750,000.

Other beneficiaries include minor pavement works from Knockalough to Crag on the N68 which have been funded to the tune of €400,000, while €300,000 has been announced for both Cahera on the N68 and the N19 Shannon Airport access road.
