Clare saw the largest decline in newly-registered tenancies of any county between the months of April and June this year.
New figures from the Residential Tenancies Board show new tenancies fell by over 45% in the Banner county in the second quarter of the year, while the average rent here jumped by over 15%.
In the period of April to June, 11,966 new tenancies commenced and 38,636 existing tenancies were renewed across the country.
In Clare during this period, the average monthly rent for a new tenancy was €1,168.
This was up 15.6% on the same time in 2023, making it the fourth-highest increase nationwide.
When it came to existing tenancies, the average rent in Clare was €924 which was up 8% on the same period last year.
By contrast, rents for new and existing tenancies in the rest of Ireland outside of Dublin grew by 8.9% and 5.9% respectively, meaning rents in Clare are rising at a faster rate than the rest of the country.
The RTB has also found that the number of newly-registered tenancies fell substantially in 22 counties in the second quarter of the year compared to the same one in the previous year, with Clare seeing the biggest decline at 45.1%, followed by Roscommon, Cavan and Tipperary.
