Clare parents are more likely to be in a position where they have to shell out for school books than is typically the case.

Figures released to the Dáil by the Education Minister show only 11 of the county's 18 post primary schools operate a book rental scheme.

This 61% rate is lower than the national average of 65%, and far lower than the likes of Carlow, Leitrim and Offaly which all have rates over 90%.
