The Vice Chair of the Clare Older People’s Council says it would be ‘unfair’ to introduce an older minimum retirement age without a sufficient lead-in period.
A recent report published by the Department of Finance has suggested the state pension age could be linked to life expectancy at some point in the future.

It says there are currently around 4 people of working age to support each person over the age of 65, while this number is expected to fall to just over 2 by 2050.
Maurice Harvey says the number of people who still solely rely on the state pension for their income is still quite high.
