A north Clare native volunteering in Uganda has funded the construction of a new dormitory to house 80 deaf children, thanks largely to the donations of people from the county.
John Conroy, alongside a Clare based team of volunteers have spent the summer in the African country supporting local organisations including Hospice Jinja, Walukuba West Primary School, and the Nile Óg Cusack’s GAA Club.
Over €375,000 has been raised since volunteers first started heading to Uganda in 2017, with money raised this year also used refurbish new classrooms, install latrines and purchase school books and other supplies.
The official opening was held 10 days ago and Fitness coach and founder of Fitness4Fun, John Conroy, says the facilities will have huge long term benefits for the region.#
