Clare Motorists Urged To “Park Smart” To Avoid Theft When The Tourist Season Resumes

Clare’s Crime Prevention Officer is urging motorists to park smart when visiting the county’s tourism hotspots.

Sergeant Triona Brooks says the relaxation of Covid-19 restrictions is likely to result in increased tourism, which traditionally attracts thieves to target vehicles parked in remote locations.

60% of break-ins to vehicles parked at locations associated with outdoor activities such as hill walking, hiking and swimming happen between April and September, with the majority occurring on weekends between 2pm and 7pm.

While, cash, car accessories, jewellery, electronics, and tools are the items most targeted in these thefts from vehicles.
