A Clare mother says drastic government measures are needed to support carers who are struggling to keep up with household bills amid soaring fuel and energy prices.
It comes as Family Carers Ireland has expressed deep disappointment over the Government’s emergency energy package announced earlier this week, saying the majority of carers facing steep, unavoidable cost increases have been left behind.
Karen Griffin, who cares for two daughters with autism and a very rare brain abnormality, says cuts to excise duty will have very little impact on families making daily trips to hospital appointments, therapies, and day services.
The Kildysart resident says it’s unbelievable the impact rising fuel and home heating costs are having on carers who are now having to make choices that could severely impact the lives of the individuals they’re caring for.
