Clare Leader Forum Urges Interim Payment Ahead Of Permanent Plan

The Clare Leader Forum is calling for an emergency payment for people with disabilities to provide interim relief ahead of a permanent measure.

The Government has launched a public consultation on a new permanent disability support payment, aimed at addressing the extra, everyday costs faced by disabled people.

Social Protection Minister Dara Calleary says this consultation will ensure disabled people’s voices are central to shaping the new payment, with submissions open until April 7th.

Michael Meere of the Clare Leader Forum believes a fair payment would be linked to inflation and would take into account varying levels of needs and requirements, but he insists that while the move is welcome, it’s too long a wait.
