The Clare Immigrant Support Centre is hopeful substantial progress towards ending direct provision can be made next year.
This is despite an expert advisory group set up to report on the Government’s promise to scrap direct provision saying that the 2024 deadline would no longer be achievable in light of the Ukrainian refugee crisis.

The coalition’s white paper on ending direct provision would see assylum seekers placed in state-owned reception centres for a maximum of four months before being moved into not-for-profit housing.
Co-ordinator of the Clare Immigrant Support Centre, Orla Ní Éilí, still believes it’s possible to build six reception centres by the end of next year.
