A prominent Clare haulier is encouraging consumers to put off filling their cars or home heating tanks until the middle of next week, amid an expected package of supports from Government.
It follows a meeting held between the Irish Road Haulage Association and the Transport Minister.
The Government’s fuel support package is expected to be voted through the Dáil on Tuesday and come into effect that evening.
It’s expected to include an enhanced Diesel rebate and excise duty relief, but there’s no indication yet of any suspension or reduction of carbon tax.
The Irish Road Haulage Association has warned that if the changes aren’t in place by Tuesday, hauliers will implement road blockages across the country.

It’s feared electricity and gas prices could also rise, however, following damage to energy infrastructure in the Middle East.
